Depending on your plan, for reimbursement a referral from your physician may be necessary and we would be happy to advise you. Your Registered Dietitian will weigh and measure you to calculate your Body Mass Index. We'll talk about your current concerns and your medical history, including any medications and supplements you take. We will talk about your eating habits and food preferences and you will receive an initial eating plan and educational materials.
Yes. Our team is experienced in helping bariatric surgery patients, particularly when weight loss is necessary to meet pre-surgical requirements. We will counsel you before surgery to help you prepare and work closely with you so that you can get proper nutrition after surgery and maintain healthy eating habits for the best possible long-term success.
Many health insurance plans cover nutrition services at HealthwayRI. Your health insurance may cover medical nutrition services, especially if you have one of these health conditions:

We accept reimbursement for medical nutrition services from most insurance providers, but your out-of-pocket costs will vary depending on co-payments and the number of dietitian visits allowed by your particular provider. We recommend that you ask your insurance company if nutrition benefits are provided for a consultation with a Registered Dietitian, and whether or not a referral from your primary care physician is required.
For payments, our office accepts Visa, MasterCard and personal checks. If you have any questions about insurance coverage, costs or payments, please give us a call.
Diabetes – Our team includes Certified Diabetes Educators who have special training and credentials in helping people with diabetes. Your Certified Diabetes Educator will work with you to improve your diet, lose weight, control your blood glucose levels and manage your diabetes. Your doctor may want you to visit us for instruction in how to administer insulin, how to check your blood sugar on your own and for menu plans that will help you meet your treatment goals.
Heart disease – Managing heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other cardiovascular problems often requires specific dietary changes. Our Registered Dietitians have years of experience working with people with cardiovascular disease. We can help you get your cholesterol under control, manage your weight and get the proper amounts of the nutrients your body needs for optimal heart health. HealthWayRI works with cardiologists throughout Rhode Island who want their heart patients to receive experienced, one-on-one medical nutrition therapy for heart disease.
Pregnancy – Good nutrition is essential for a healthy pregnancy and for giving your baby the best start in life. Our Registered Dietitians can help you manage your weight, prevent or manage gestational diabetes and other concerns that affect your health during pregnancy.
Pediatrics – We can help you improve your child’s health and well being and build a foundation for good eating habits that last a lifetime. We provide education and personalized eating plans for infants and children and specific medical nutrition therapy for children with gastrointestinal problems, kidney disease, heart disease and other pediatric illnesses.
Digestive / gastrointestinal disorders – We develop nutrition plans for people with all types of digestive and gastrointestinal problems, including: Celiac Disease, lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome and many others.
